USING THE CAMERA AS A DESIGN TOOL

This exercise exposes students to using the camera as design tool and working with three-dimensional typography. Type and image are the polar opposites of visual communication. Through the construction of letterforms and photographing them students developed ways of seeing type beyond its function as simply text on a page. Students were asked to create a harmonious relationship between typography and imagery. The posters were made with staged photography and the type was added later with the computer.
