MP RAYMOND
Brownstone, 36″x48″ Oil
“…a self taught artist who specializes in realism.”
I look for balance and depth of composition in all my work. I try to celebrate symmetry and strength through subtleness. The subject alone is never my first thought when it comes to choosing what I’m going to paint. What’s most important to me is that the composition should evoke an emotional response, and that it embodies all the aspects of great design. Once I’ve decided to proceed with a painting my next step is to begin with a concept drawing, following this up with several reference photographs. I then produce a final drawing on canvas. From this point I begin an under painting, then apply thin layers of oil pigment and slowly build up the painting. I feel this approach gives a transparent, luminous effect that I believe becomes very apparent in both portraits and landscapes.
